The Gerd Müller Trophy is an annual award presented by France Football—the organizers of the Ballon d'Or—to the player who has scored the most goals for both club and country during a single season. The award was first introduced in 2021 as the "Striker of the Year" and was renamed in 2022 to honor the legendary German and Bayern Munich striker Gerd Müller, who passed away in 2021.

Robert Lewandowski is a Polish professional footballer who plays as a striker for La Liga club Barcelona and captains the Poland national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest strikers of all time, he is one of only five players to have scored 100 goals with three different clubs, ranks third for the all-time top goalscorers in the UEFA Champions League (only behind Messi and Ronaldo) with 105 goals, and ranks third for the all-time European men's top goal scorers in international football (85). He has scored over 700 senior career goals for club and country.
